Overview

Environmental Toxicology is an undergraduate Specialization offered through Queen's University's School of Environmental Studies, leading to a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree (ETOX-S). The plan is one of several science-stream specializations within the School, alongside Environmental Science, Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Earth Systems Science, and Environmental Geology, reflecting the School's interdisciplinary approach to environmental issues: the health of ecosystems and human populations, and the social, cultural, and economic systems tied to sustainability. As a Specialization, the plan concentrates course requirements in toxicology and supporting environmental science, in contrast to the broader Major and General options offered by the same School. Plan advising is coordinated through the School of Environmental Studies, based in the BioSciences Complex on Queen's Kingston campus. Degree requirements for students entering the plan in 2026/27 follow the current Faculty of Arts and Science calendar; students who entered prior to 2025 follow the archived calendar requirements for their entry year.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Queen's Faculty of Arts and Science admits science applicants under the Science admission category (QS), which covers Biology and Cognitive Sciences (QSB), Mathematics and Statistics (QSM) and Physical and Chemical Sciences (QSP) sub-groups — including plans such as Astrophysics, Chemistry, Earth Systems Science, Mathematical Physics, Physics & Astronomy, Biology-Mathematics, and the Environmental Science, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Geology, Environmental Life Sciences and Environmental Toxicology plans. Ontario Secondary School Diploma applicants need six 4U/4M courses: English 4U and Calculus and Vectors 4U are mandatory, plus two of Biology 4U, Chemistry 4U or Physics 4U chosen to match the intended plan's prerequisites, and two further courses at the 4U or 4M level. Recent admission cycles have required a low-80s overall average for this category. Applicants apply through the OUAC and submit official transcripts; applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not studied long enough in English, must also meet Queen's English Language Proficiency requirement. No supplementary application is required for general Science entry.
