The Graduate Diploma in Accounting (GDA) is a 13-week, full-time program offered by Smith School of Business at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, running from May to July. It is designed for recent graduates seeking to fast-track entry into the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. The curriculum consists of four mandatory courses covering income tax practice, information systems control and audit, financial reporting and assurance, and integration and analysis, delivered through a mix of seminars, self-directed research, case projects, and lectures, including full-day case writing workshops that prepare students for the CPA Common Final Examination (CFE). The four courses satisfy the post-undergraduate course requirements for entry into the CPA Capstone Modules. On completion, graduates receive the Graduate Diploma in Accounting, gain advanced standing with provincial and regional CPA bodies across Canada, and can qualify to write the CFE in as little as 15 months after starting. The program is accredited by CPA Ontario.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Applicants require a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized university; a Bachelor of Commerce from Queen's University or an equivalent business/accounting degree is required for CPA Ontario advanced standing, and equivalency from other Canadian universities is assessed individually based on curriculum and GPA. Applicants must have completed, or be currently enrolled in, university-level courses covering financial accounting, management accounting, finance, economics, auditing, income taxation, information systems, business law, strategic management, marketing, organizational behaviour, and quantitative methods/statistics (or equivalents); unofficial transcripts are accepted at application, with official transcripts required upon conditional admission. International applicants are assessed case-by-case and must include a CPA Transcript Assessment with their application. Admission is competitive; meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance.
